HERODOT. Network for Geography in Higher Education
HERODOT
is an international network with more than 150 members.
Objectives:
Its main objectives are promotion of the Geographical science and
improvement of Geography teaching through the improvement of teacher
qualifications and geographer professionalisation. Said objectives
are pictured in four major actions to be completed in future years
(2006-2010):
1. The European dimension of higher education Geography: citizenship,
culture, place and identity.
2. Promotion of Geography in the 21st century and its contributions
to society.
3. The new Geographical teaching in Europe and about Europe.
4. "Lifelong learning", learning strategies directed to
competitivity, employment, social inclusion, etc.
Activities:
The working lines are set by members in the different meetings
and are to enhance their cooperation, while keeping in mind the
goal of designing a process for quality teaching-learning within
the HSES framework.
An annual conference is held and the last ones were held in London
(2003), Torun (2005), London (2006), Stockholm (2007), Liverpool
(2008), Ayvalik (2009).
