EUROGEO. European Network of Geography Teachers' Associations

EUROGEO is the successor of the European Standing
Conference of Geography Teachers Association (ESCGTA), which was
established within the European Union. The Real Sociedad Geográfica
has participated in EUROGEO since its start (in 1979) for more than
25 years. In 1994 other European countries became members and the
association took the name of EUROGEO.
Since 1980 its main activities are an Assembly Meeting
held every two years in the places below, and a Journal that is
left unpublished by lack of funding. Subjects are the following:

Relevant aspects of various countries |
|
In all the cases, the provided information is related to Geography
teaching in Europe and it deals with the geographical aspects centred
on the geographical reality of the country members.
Since 1990, a "Newsletter" is published as a communication
means for members.
In 1996 it carried out a "Geographical Teaching Directory
in the European countries" paid by the Council of Europe. The
directory has been updated and it is a collection of Geographical
Associations, Libraries, Map Collections, Text-Books and Atlas,
etc.
The traditional working languages are English and French, and German
since 1994.
Its main objective is to promote Geography's European dimension
in non-universitary European schools, giving much relevance to New
Technologies. The EURO.GEO projects is to look into the new opportunities
that the Web supplies and to create and evaluate the "on line"
geographical resources that can help teaching the European dimension
in secondary schools.
EUROGEO's funding comes from the 100 Euro per year paid by each
European association and from the financial aid obtained from Brussels.
Said funds enable EUROGEO to hold the biannual conferences and maintain
the website: http://www.eurogeography.eu
